Africa – Interior Rift Basins of North and Central Africa
•The marine rift basins (Sirte Basin, Gulf of Suez) are mature
from an exploration standpoint.
•Of the continental rift basins, commercial
oil reserves have been established in the Murzuk Basin (Libya), the Muglad Basin
(Sudan), and the Doba Basin (Chad).
•Potentially productive continental rift
basins occur in the Central African Republic, Chad, Egypt, Libya, Niger,
Nigeria, Sudan and Uganda.
•Pervasive faulting in the continental rift basins results in
reservoir compartmentalization.
•High-wax crudes are difficult to transport
and require heated pipelines.
